AI in Delivery: I Didn't Really Build This Website

The most honest thing I can say about this website is that I didn't really build it. And yet, here it is.

You are reading this on a website that took about twenty minutes to create. I have not written a line of code in the best part of a decade. I understood the basics — HTML, CSS, JavaScript — but I would not have called myself proficient in any of them. Before this, my experience of building websites was limited to Squarespace and WordPress.

That is not a disclaimer. That is the whole point.

What I Actually Did

I opened Claude Code. I uploaded my CV. I uploaded a headshot. I said I wanted a profile website. And then I waited.

Twenty minutes later, I had one. A real one. Not a template with my name dropped in — a built, structured, working website with my content, my layout, and my information already in place. The things I changed afterwards were minor: a few placeholder assumptions to correct, some colour choices to adjust. The foundation was there.

What made it more impressive than just the build was what came alongside it. Claude did not just write the code. It told me what accounts I needed to create and where. It walked me through setting up a GitHub repository to store the source code. It explained how to host the site. When it came to the contact form, it pointed me to the right external tool and told me how to connect it. I did not have to go looking for any of that. It was part of the conversation.

For someone who has spent a decade away from anything resembling development work, that guidance mattered as much as the code itself.

The Meta Bit

Here is what I find genuinely interesting about this post.

I am a delivery professional. Part of what I do — and increasingly what I want to help others do — is get comfortable with AI tools and understand where they can create real value in their work. This website exists to make that case. These blog posts are part of making that case.

And the website was built by AI. The posts are written with AI assistance. The thing I am using to demonstrate the value of these tools is itself a product of those tools.

I want to be careful not to oversell that. It was not magic. There were moments where I had to course-correct, where an assumption Claude made was not quite right, where I needed to be clear about what I actually wanted. That human direction still matters. It always will.

But the barrier I expected to find was not there. The version of this task I had imagined — the one that would require me to relearn things I had forgotten, or hire someone, or compromise on what I actually wanted — did not materialise. I got a website that does what I need it to do, that I can update and build on, and that cost me an afternoon.

What This Means for You

I am not miles ahead of most people on this. I am a few steps ahead, and those steps are genuinely accessible.

The tools exist. The access is there. What is often missing is the confidence to start, or the sense that it is worth the effort to try. I hope this gives some signal on both of those things.
